Uncover your potential', indeed! Once you stop ogling the girl, though, you might notice that this Australian Special Air Service (SAS) recruiting poster shows Australian Disruptive Pattern Camouflage to very good effect. [Image courtesy Brad Turner collection.]
Pletsløring, 1996 variant
Kingdom of Denmark
The Danish Army trialled its first camouflage uniforms in 1978. The Pletsløring ('spot camouflage') camouflage pattern that was developed for the Testuniform T/78 ('trial uniform T/78') was based on Flecktarn, but featured only three colours — black, light green and olive green — instead of five. These colours were chosen specifically to reflect Scandinavian terrains, rather than Central European.
The first T/78 uniforms were evaluated and the information gained was used in the development of the Kampuniform M/84 ('combat uniform M/84') camouflage uniform. The elements of the Pletsløring patterns used for the T/78 and M/84 are identical, although there are minor differences between the colours. Moreover, the Kampuniform M/84 has been produced by at least three different manufacturers, since 1984, and the different versions can also be distinguished by colour variations.
Appearing at some time around 1996, the third version of the M/84 combat uniform is reputed to be manufactured in Poland. When compared with the original Danish M/84 camouflage, the colours used in this version have a yellow cast; as a result, the green elements are pale and brownish. It is reported that they also fade almost to the background colour, after long wear and repeated laundering.
