'Daguet'
French Republic
On 24 August 1990, France responded to requests for military aid, which were made by the United Arab Emirates, by launching Operation 'Busiris'. Initially, only the 5th Regiment of Combat Helicopters, a detachment of the Light Aviation of the Army, a company of the First Regiment of Infantry and two sections of Crotale missiles were committed to the operation. However, when the invading Iraqi army penetrated the residence of the French ambassador in Kuwait, President François Mitterrand decided to increase the French military presence in the Gulf. An additional 4000 personnel and about 30 fighters were deployed, and Operation 'Busiris' was renamed 'Daguet'.
Although it was introduced in 1989, this French desert camouflage pattern is commonly known as 'Daguet' because it is so closely associated with Operation 'Daguet'. It is a three-colour camouflage pattern, comprising large, horizontally-aligned earth brown and light sage green bands on a neutralised desert pink background.
