Uncover your potential', indeed! Once you stop ogling the girl, though, you might notice that this Australian Special Air Service (SAS) recruiting poster shows Australian Disruptive Pattern Camouflage to very good effect. [Image courtesy Brad Turner collection.]
Swiss M18–40 helmet cover camouflage
Swiss Confederation
Frequently mis-named 'Swiss Sumpfmuster' (German, 'marsh pattern'), by collectors, because of its superficial resemblance to Wehrmachts-Sumpfmuster 44, this camouflage pattern is actually an evolution of the camouflage pattern that was introduced with the M18 helmet cover. It is easily distinguished from German Sumpfmuster by the complete absence of a dashed overprint.
Like its predecessor, this is a 3-colour pattern of soft-edged moss green and red ochre blotches on a yellow ochre background, and it appears to have been used for nothing but helmet covers. The pattern is much denser, though, and was printed rather than hand-painted. It was produced as one side of the reversible helmet covers that were intended for use with the Swiss M18–40 helmet. The other side of these covers features the 5-colour Swiss splinter pattern camouflage.
