Uncover your potential', indeed! Once you stop ogling the girl, though, you might notice that this Australian Special Air Service (SAS) recruiting poster shows Australian Disruptive Pattern Camouflage to very good effect. [Image courtesy Brad Turner collection.]
Flectar
Russian Federation
Historically, Russia's special operations units have been issued the same camouflage uniforms as the regular armed forces. At the time of writing, the latest camouflage pattern to be issued to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was Flora, which is very effective in central Russia.
Unfortunately, a camouflage pattern that works well in the fields near Moscow isn't necessarily suitable to all of the diverse environments in which Russian special forces are required to operate. For this reason most special operations units supplement their issue uniforms with commercially produced camouflage uniforms, which are typically purchased by sponsors or else paid for out of a soldier's own pockets.
Flectar is but one of these commercially-produced camouflage patterns. Available since 2004, Flectar is a five-colour camouflage, comprising black, dark green, olive grey and red earth clumps and dots on a chartreuse background. It is obviously based on the very successful Bundeswehr-Flecktarnmuster.
