Uncover your potential', indeed! Once you stop ogling the girl, though, you might notice that this Australian Special Air Service (SAS) recruiting poster shows Australian Disruptive Pattern Camouflage to very good effect. [Image courtesy Brad Turner collection.]
'Troops of Special Purpose' camouflage, green dominant
Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
Known variously as JNA 'Mountain Pattern', Yugoslavian 'Dots Pattern', and 'Troops of Special Purpose' camouflage, this distinctive five-colour design appears to be the first camouflage pattern ever to be used by the armed forces of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia — the Jugoslovenska Narodna Armija ('Yugoslav People's Army', JNA). Widely reported to have been printed in the German Democratic Republic, the design defies description; it features both hard- and soft-edged elements, extensively over-spattered. Apparently there was considerable colour variation between different print runs; the sample shown on this page was scanned from one leg of a pair of pants and has a distinctly green cast, while the fabric used for the other leg is predominantly blue-green.
The only item known to be manufactured in this camouflage pattern is a scout/sniper oversuit, which comprised a hooded smock, trousers, mittens, and a carrying bag. The oversuit was worn throughout the 1960s, and its use was limited to reconnaissance and special operations personnel.
