Montenegro is a country located in Southeastern Europe. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the south and borders Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast, Albania to the southeast.

The status of the union between Montenegro and Serbia was decided by the referendum on Montenegrin independence on 21 May 2006. On 3 June 2006, the Parliament of Montenegro declared the independence of Montenegro. Serbia did not obstruct the ruling, but confirmed its own independence and declared the dissolution of the State Union of Serbia & Montenegro, shortly thereafter.
